The State Women’s Conference on the theme of The Women’s Strength for Social Revolution, organized by Jamate Islami Kerala, will be held at Kuttippuram, Malappuram on January 24, 2010. The Conference, being organized with a view to mobilizing women and involving them creatively in the social reconstruction and the process of the revolution, is expected to be a landmark in the renaissance of Kerala. Seminars on various topics attended by eminent leaders in the various fields will be organized in the districts of Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Trissur, and Kozhikode, as part of the conference. Elaborate programmes that include courtyard meetings, family reunions, public gatherings, various contests for women, and renovations in selected wards of government hospitals have also been worked out.
The conference was formally announced by the State President, Jamate Islami Women’s Wing, Tamil Nadu, Ms Amatul Wahid Faqiha Beegum at Jimmy George Indoor Stadium, Tiruvananthapuram on October 4 2009. She maintained in her inaugural address that women were duty-bound to be involved in the fight for social justice and healthy and constructive social revolution. However, the Muslim women often act against the spirit of Islam by evading their responsibility in the process of social reconstruction, she added.
Women, as a result of widespread ignorance in the society as well as among the womenfolk, not only do not get due consideration in the social system but are often subjected to gross exploitation and tortures as well. The empowerment of women has come to mean the preservation of body and beauty on the lines of Western culture alone. Faqira Begum highlighted education and consequent intellectual development as the panacea to fight all these growing menaces.
Delivering the key-note address on the occasion, Mr T Arif Ali, Amir, Jamate ISlami Kerala, reiterated that family and its values were the target of Capitalism. The family is the institution where humans get their basic needs fulfilled. Once that institution is pulled down, one would have to buy from the market what he would otherwise get at home. That is precisely what these nefarious forces would have us do. Burgeoning day care centres and homes for the elderly are an offshoot of this disturbing trend in the society.
Imperialist forces have turned the entire system of order and governance in the world ranging from local bodies to international social movements into mere pawns in their hands and are seeking to implement imperialist designs even through Grama Sabhas and local civic bodies. The obvious aim is to undermine all social institutions and movements. That is why the system of family life is being so relentlessly targeted. He called upon the woman community to be involved in the fight against all forms and instruments of Imperialism.
The meeting was presided by Ms K K Suhra, the President, Jamate Islami Women’s Wing. J Arundathi, M L A, O V Usha, the eminent writer, P V Rahmabi, and K K Raheena among others spoke at the function. The logo of the Conference was released by O V Usha., H Nusrath welcomed the gathering, while J K Saheena, the District President Jamate Islami Women’s Wing proposed a vote of thanks, while The meeting was noted for the remarkable presence of the woman audience. |
